Heat Pumps provide a great energy-efficient solution to your home for heating and cooling,  but like anything heat pumps also need regular servicing. Lack of maintenance to your heat pump could severely affect the efficiency and performance of your heat pump. It could also cause you problems later on down the track.

Regular heat pump servicing also helps keep the core of the coils and fan blade bacteria and odor free making this a health benefit for you and your family.

“We recommend servicing your heat pump annually, usually before winter or summer when you are likely to use it the most

And cleaning your filters every 3 months will help ease the build-up of dust over time, which can restrict the airflow and compromise your heat pump's efficiency, making it less efficient to run costing you more money.”

Paul Topless - Owner/Operator

Reasons to service your heat pump

From improving performance to creating a healthier living environment, there are plenty of reasons to clean and service your heat pump.

  • Poor Performance - Dust Blocked Filters

Get the best performance out of your heat pump. If you have noticed that your heat pump won't heat or cool the space you are trying no matter what you have the remote set to? It could be because it needs a service. Blocked filters, dirty blower wheels, and dirty heat exchangers drastically affect the performance of the system, which means you could still be freezing in winter and sweating in summer no matter what you have your heat pump set to.

  • High Power Bills

A poorly maintained heat pump is very inefficient to run. Poor system performance increases unit run times and high-power consumption, which can add hundreds to your annual cooling and heating costs.

  • Bad Odors

Have you noticed that there is a horrible smell coming from your heat pump every time you turn it on? A dirty drain assy can also cause poor drainage performance and this can cause the water to sit in the bottom of your unit and go stagnant and start to smell. Contaminants such as dust and mould can also create bad smells.

  • Mould

Your heat pump is the perfect breeding ground for mould, bacteria, and viruses to grow. This build-up can also cause things like bad smells, allergic reactions, hay fever, and poor system performance. These nasty contaminants call all be removed by getting your heat pump properly and regularly serviced.

  • Healthier Environment

The most important thing is everybody's health at work and home, and when your heat pump is clean this will be enhanced as your filters from your heat pump are free from Pollens and dust that would have become trapped.

Services

We run a comprehensive cleaning service including both the indoor and outdoor units.
Firstly, we test run the system to ensure it is operating correctly. The system is then isolated from the power supply and locked off.

Indoor Unit Procedure:

The unit covers are removed from the indoor unit, along with the filters. We then soak the filters in our specialised filter cleaning product and clean all the indoor unit covers inside and out.

Our specialised bib kit is the attached to your heat pump, this is to ensure all the mould, water and dirt that comes from your heat pump is all caught and poured into a bucket.

The coil, drain trough assy and blower wheel are soaked in a coil cleaning product, and we then use our high-powered pressure washer to eject all the dirt, mould and contaminants out of your heat pump system.

We then use a hospital grade disinfectant spray to deodorise and disinfectant the system, leaving your heat pump and smelling nice and fresh.

The unit covers are all dried and are reassemble on to the indoor system, and refit the air filters.

The remote control is also given a wipe over and we will replace the batteries in the remote if they are getting flat.

Outdoor Unit Procedure:

We soak the heat exchanger coils with our industry approved evaporator coil cleaner, and clean the unit covers. The heat exchanger coil is pressure washed to extract any dirt or mould that maybe growing.

The system is checked for any signs of ants or cockroaches in or around the unit.

We do carry ant bait to put down if there seems to be an ant issue, but it is up to the client to control the ant and cockroach population.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Yes, we service all makes and models of heat pump systems.

  • It normally takes between 45-60 mins to service a standard domestic highwall heat pump system.

  • We recommend getting your heat pump serviced annually, but the filters should be cleaned every few months depending on your system usage. Cleaning the filters can be done by the customer.

  • We have noticed a big increase in the number of indoor units with mould growing in them over the past few years. This is because more and more units are being used for cooling as much as they are heating. On cooling mode, the indoor heat exchanger and blower wheel gets condensation on them from the cooling process. If there is a build-up of dust and contaminants on these surfaces it becomes the perfect breeding ground for mould and bacteria to grow.

Units that get used a lot on heating get a mould build up on the outdoor unit coils which affects system efficiency and can also increase the number of defrost cycles during winter months.
